What We Do

Harney SWCD is a political subdivision of state government. Harney SWCD is considered a municipal corporation, a form of local government that is required to follow many of the same laws that govern state agencies. As defined in Oregon Revised Statute 174.116, local governments specifically include soil and water conservation districts. The Harney Soil & Water Conservation District was established in 1972. The District promotes wise use and conservation of Oregon’s natural resources within Harney County. Harney SWCD provides local leadership, technical assistance, information, and improved access to state and federal cost-share assistance to make positive changes across the landscape.
