A Garden of Bees

Posted on 03.08.22 by Harney SWCD

A habitat is described as a natural home for an animals or plants.  A functional habitat is the intentional creation of a home for animals and plants.  Many people are foregoing traditional lawns for pollinator friendly gardens.  The gardens are live with a variety of native plants that encourage native bees and moths to spend time gathering pollen for food and in turn helping the plant.

The Xerces Society is dedicated to the preservation of invertebrates, which includes native bees and moths, and partners with the Natural Resources Conservation District in projects.  While the presenters of this video are located in the Midwest, much of the content can be adjusted to any area.  The Xerces Society has a YouTube channel for further information and the website has suggestions on creating a functional habitat.
